A young Great Horned Owl peeks out through a tangle of cottonwood branches, its head tilted in that curious way owlets have, as if trying to work out what's looking back at it. Wide amber eyes and a fluffy, barred body peer from the shadows of the big tree, half-hidden by the crisscrossing limbs. Spring catkins hang from the branches, and soft sunlight filters through the canopy. The owlet's slightly lopsided expression gives the photo a lot of personality.
